AK Sharah

   Moniet El Sharaf x Sabrah

Her background:

Like Mother Like Daughter By Arlene Magid Excerpts Reprinted from The Arabian Horse Times 1988   This research highlights the straight Egyptian mare Sabrah , one of only two straight Egyptian mares to produce four or more National Champions.   Sabrah is the dam of AK Sharah.

In the history of American Arabian breeding, there have been just three mother/daughter pairs where both mares have produced four or more national winners They are: Habina++ and Aethena, "Caliope and Carinosa+/ and Sabrah and Ansata Sabiha, who are the only straight Egyptian pair . This is their story.  Sabrah was foaled in 1964, at the farm of Henry Babson.  She has a typical Babson pedigree containing three of the 1932 Babson imports: "FadI (to whom she has three crosses - she is 43.75 percent "Fadl), *Bint Bint Sabbah (two crosses, a total of 37.5 percent), and 'Bint Serra I (two crosses a total of 18.75 percent).
Both her sire and dam trace in tail female to 'Bint Bint Sabbah, making her a pure-in-strain Dahman Shahwan.  Sabrah's sire, Fabah, also sired 1983 U.S Top Ten Native Costume winner El Ibn Fabah.  Maarena (dam of two national winners), Hadbah (sire of four national winners) and national-winner producer FadIDan.

Her dam, Serasab, is by Fa Serr out of Fay Sabbah, and is thus a full sister to Shebaa, dam of U S National Western Pleasure Champion and Top Ten English Pleasure winner, Bay Rod++ Serasab is also a three-quarter sister to the national winners Bint Aaroufa, Roufas and Aarouser Her sire, Fa Serr, a reserve champion at halter, sired four national winners' US Top Ten Park winner Bint Aaroufa, US Reserve National English Pleasure Champion Roufas, Canadian Top Ten Mare AArouser, and US Top Ten Mare Serr Ra Six Fa Serr sons and three daughters have produced national winners Serasab's dam. Fay Sabbah. Is by Fay-El-Dine, sire of six mares who have produced national winners, including Aaroufa, who has produced three national winners.

Thus, Sabrah was bred to be an exceptional producer.  She began her breeding career in the ownership of Don and Judith Forbis of Ansata.  Her first foal, Ansata Sabiha, was bred by the Forbises and produced five champions and four national winners.  Her second foal at Ansata,  Ansata El Reyhan++, was foaled in 1969 and was sired by Ansala Ibn Sudan.  He had three national wins I 976 US Reserve National English Pleasure AOTR Champion and Reserve National Trail Champion and 1978 US Top Ten Native Costume winner.  He has sired two national winners himself 1980 US Top Ten Trail winner Jon San Blizzard+ and 1985 Canadian Top Ten Mare Whitemark El Reyba He is also the sire of Region XV Top Five Stallion Rey Brazzia and of Legion of Merit winner Jon San Cheyenne++. Ansata El Reyhan++ died in 1984.

Sabrah was sold to Robert Cowling of Texas, who bred her next four foals.  Her first foal for Cowling is also her most famous - Fa Halima, by "Ansata Ibn Halima++, who is of the same family strain as Sabrah.   Fa Halima was shown only because her 1979 foal died when very young.  Her beauty had often been noted by those who knew her, and since she did not have a foal to raise, she could be campaigned.

In 1979, she was named a US Top Ten Mare and went to the Salon Du Cheval and was named European Reserve Champion Mare In 1980.  She was named Canadian Reserve National Champion Mare and US National Champion Mare Two of her sons are champions AK El Maleek (by 'Refky) is a halter champion who died at age 6, and Al Khalid (by •Ibn Moniet El Nefous) is the 1984 Region VII Reserve Champion Stallion and a Region IX Top Five Stallion Unfortunately, he died in 1984 of colic on the way to the Canadian nationals (he was just 8 years old).  Sabrah produced three more foals for Cowling: the stallions Fa Halim and SarFadI Halim (a performance champion), both full siblings to Fa Halima, and the mare Sar Fa Mora (by 'Morafic).

Sabrah was subsequently sold to Bentwood Farm of Texas, for whom she produced her next seven foals. Her first two Bentwood bred foals are full brothers by •Ibn Moniet El Nefous, and both are national winners Ala Bhaba is a 1983 Canadian top Ten English Pleasure winner, and. in 1987,was named Region XV Reserve 1 Eglish Pleasure AOTR Champion.  Sabrah's other foals for Bentwood include the stallions AK Pashaby Ansata Abbas Pasha, who is deceased, AK Kallal by The EgyptianPrince, and AK Sant, and the mares SI Khalazahra and AK Sharah by Moniet El Sharaf.

Mares who produce four or more champions are considered significant broodmares. Only 31 mares in the history of the breed have produced four national winners. But mares who produce four national winners and have daughters who do the same are truly priceless gems.  Sabrah and Ansata Sabiha are the standard which all breeders try to achieve in their broodmares .
